I have recently discovered the fantastic work of Saul Leiter (born 1923) is an American photographer and painter whose early work in the 1940s and 1950s was an important contribution to what came to be recognized as The New York School.
Coming form an artistic background (painter), Saul’s work reflects an abstract yet minimal and inviting compositions that will make your eye wonder like no other. Back in those days when the majority of photographs where shooting black and white film, Saul took a totally different direction by using the beautiful cibachrome film (color) that brought an outstanding and unique feel to his wonderful art.
If you are interested to hear Saul talk about his work, I have attached a video found on vimeo in which he tells us about his path as a photographer. It is a fairly long video, however extremely interesting and inspiring, if you are into photography.
